Quirindi CNC (28-29 May 2011)

Niki headed to Quirindi with just two horses for a relaxing weekend.  Lee Hokianga's Umunga performed well all weekend to lead the CNC1* from start to finish.  He will now head to Melbourne CCI1* in two weeks.

Niki also rode Penny Ledner's Cleddau Von Zipper in the introductory.  He did a lovely dressage test to be in the lead, one rail in the jumping kept them in the lead however a couple of stops at the water dropped them out of the placing's.  No doubt with a bit more experience and a few more outings this horse will be a successful eventer.

Our lovely young Vivant mare Vivanthorpe made the trip to Quirindi with Niki but kept heading north with her new owners to her new home in Queensland.  We congratulate the Marley family on the purchase of Holly and look forward to following Krystal and Holly's success together.

Eventing Equestriad CIC (21-22 May 2011)

Shane and Niki are on the committee for this event so it was a busy week and weekend.  Niki decided not to ride so she could help more with the running of the competition.

Shane had a successful weekend with Il Vici winning the Highland Drilling CIC2* and Statford Neo placing 3rd in the same class.  Virgil was 2nd in the Burwood Lodge CIC1*, Shane also rode Phoenix Rising in the Musto CIC1* and they finished in 9th position.  Phoenix is owned by the Marley family who have recently purchased Vivanthorpe (Holly) from Shane and Niki.  Krystal Marley has been staying with us for a couple of weeks to familiarise herself with Holly before she takes her to her home in Queensland.  Shane had APH Moritz in the Hume Coal CIC3* he did a good test and went well cross country to be in 2nd place heading into the showjumping.  Two uncharacteristic rail dropped them back to 8th place, Moritz just seemed to miss read the triple bar which unsettled him and resulted in a second rail falling.

Soigne rode in the Hume Coal CIC3* however Gold misbehaved in the dressage which had them well down the leaderboard and even with great jumping phases they were unable to move up enough spots to feature in the placing's of this tough class.  She did place 3rd with Collateral Damage who was having his first Pre Novice start.

Good friend Lissa Green was visiting from the UK and was keen to ride at the event so she borrowed Contador and did a great job to jump on an unknown horse and be competitive.  They scored 72% in the dressage and finished on their dressage score to place 5th in the Prelim.  Contador will now have a well earned break.

Overall the event was a huge success with positive feedback from spectators and competitors.  Both Shane and Niki are proud to be involved with this great committee and enjoy the opportunity to give back to the sport.  Congratulations to the whole committee for a job well done.  For more details about the event go to www.equestriad.equestrian.org.au

Canberra CNC (14-15 May 2011)

Niki and Rachel headed off for a very relaxing weekend in Canberra with just 3 horses competing.  Niki rode Lee Hokianga's Umunga in the CNC1*.  He went very well and came home the class winner and scored a winners cheque of $2000!  Niki also rode her own Contador who is really establishing himself as a star performer, he once again scored over 70% in the dressage and jumped a double clear to place 2nd in the Prelim.

Rachel rode her own Duncan in the Introductory, he is still green in the competition arena but has lots of promise for the future.

Sydney Weekend of World Cups (6-8 May 2011)

It was a fantastic weekend competition, the organising committee put together a great event and the weather was perfect.  Shane had a successful weekend but was disappointed not to win the World Cup class.  Taurus put together a great test to be in 2nd position, a fast clear cross country round put them into the lead however two unfortunate rails in the showjumping dropped him back to 3rd behind the consistent Kiwi combination of Clarke Johnstone and Orient Express.  Clarke was the deserved winner and now has two World Cup wins, so he is the current series leader.  Chris Burton on HP Leilani were once again 2nd so they are just behind Clarke on the leaderboard.  Shane while disappointed is still pleased with Taurus as he is just 8 years old.  All the other horses in the top six have competed in at least two CCI4* each.  With three of the top six representing their country at last years World Championships, so Taurus is up there with the best of them.  APH Moritz did a great test to be up amongst the leaders however he became exhausted on the cross country course and Shane elected to walk home as he had no energy, which is not normal.  Blood tests showed he was dehydrated, he obviously prefers his dam water to the town water they have at SIEC.  Something we will have to keep an eye on in future.

In the CIC2* Statford Neo performed very well to finish in 3rd place, adding just a 1.6 time faults to his dressage score.  Shane and Il Vici won the huge CIC1* that had 39 starters in the class.  Vici finished on his dressage score, Niki and Lee Hokianga's Umunga also finished on their dressage score in the CIC1* to place 2nd just behind Shane.  Virgil and Shane were also in the CIC1* however after a good dressage test, Virgil got distracted in front of an arrowhead and ran past it, incurring 20 penalties and dropping them out of the placing's.

Soigne Jackson had a great weekend with Gold to place 8th in the CIC3* World Cup class, they added just one rail to their dressage score.  Soigne also rode her young horse Collateral Damage in the 5 year old class and the Prelim event and placing 4th in both classes.

Niki rode Contador in the 4 year old class and the Prelim event.  Contador is developing into a wonderful competition horse and the judges agreed,  he was named the 4 year old winner and finished on his dressage score in the Prelim to place 2nd.

Rachel Watts rode he lovely young thoroughbred Duncan in the 5 year old class.  He scored very well in both the dressage and jumping and placed 2nd, Rachel has done a good job as Duncan came to her as your typical racehorse, very fit looking and a bit feral, he has really made the transition from just a racehorse to a future star.

Silver Hills CNC (23-24 April 2011)

A good weekend for the team.  We travelled just up the road to Silver Hills, Shane had four horses, Niki had two and Rachel and Soigne had one each.

Shane had a good win on Statford Neo in the CNC2*, they finished on their dressage score.  The beautiful Il Vici had his first CNC2* start and really stepped up to the challenge, they were placed 2nd after the Dressage and Cross Country however an unfortunate rail in the showjumping dropped them to 4th.  Vici will drop back to the CIC1* next start at the Sydney World Cup event as the 2* there may just be a bit tough for his second start at that level.  Shane and Michelle Hasibar's Virgil were 2nd in the CNC1* and were awarded highest placed Warmblood in the class.  Virgil is really developing into a future star.  The lovely WP Sister Act placed 2nd in the Pre Novice, they finished on their impressive dressage score of 73%.

Niki and the 4yo Contador won the Prelim, leading from start to finish.  They scored 77% in the dressage and added just .8 time fault cross country.  Contador is a lovely horse for the future.  Niki also rode Lee Hokianga's Umunga in his first CNC1* start.  They finished in 5th place, Niki was disappointed with their dressage as they made several big mistakes which dragged their score down.  Cross country Umi jumped great and just incurred a few time penalties and one rail in the showjumping which was rider error.

Soigne had her lovely young horse Collateral Damage in the Prelim they went well but finished outside the placing's this weekend.  Rachel was having her first start on her new horse Duncan and it was a great outing for him.  Duncan went well in all phases and showed lots of promise for the future.

Sydney Royal Show (19 April 2011)

Equestrian Australia and the Royal Show have worked together to create an eventing competition for the Royal Show.  the competition comprised of short dressage test in the morning which ranked the horses followed by a jumping course which included a mixture of cross country and showjumps against the clock.

Shane rode Statford Neo and APH Moritz in the class.  Neo did a good test but has not yet established half pass and flying changes so these movement pulled down his overall dressage score.  He ended the dressage in 9th position.  Moritz did a great test showing very good changes and lateral work, he scores 84% to be well in the lead after the dressage phase.

In the jumping Neo did a good round with 2 rails down and a few seconds over the optimum time.  This round was good enough to move him up to 5th place.  To make the optimum time you needed to travel quiet fast which made some of the horses a little less careful over the showjumps.  Moritz was last to go as he was the dressage leader.  He jumped a super round to be the only clear round and the only one to complete the course undertime, so he was the clear winner of the class.  He is now we believe qualified to take part in the Exhibition Eventing at Equitana later in the year.

Kihikihi CIC - World Cup qualifier (New Zealand) (8-10 April 2011)

Shane is extremely please with Johnnie Walker's Arvey (aka Taurus) who had his first international trip.  They travelled to New Zealand for the Kihikihi World Cup qualifier.  This was Shane's second trip to Kihikihi, he took All Luck to the same competition in 2009.  The organising committee put together a wonderful competition and looked after us very well.  We were lucky enough to stay in a beautiful Wade Equine truck on the venue, it was very comfortable.....thanks Wade Equine! John Nicholson created a fantastic cross country track that was big, technical and imposing.

Shane and Arvey put together a great test with no errors and some really fancy work.  Sadly they did not score as they had hoped and were 5 points off the leaders.  Shane really thought he should have been much closer to the leading score and many spectators and fellow competitors agreed.  Anyway on to the jumping!

Cross country Arvey and Shane had a 'life' early on the course at the very tough fence 3.  Arvey hit the C element, a very big brush apex quiet hard and Shane seemed to fly in the air.  Fortunately they landed together and carried on, for the rest of the course they travelled and jumped beautifully to cross the finish line 2 seconds under the optimum time to remain on there dressage score.  The following day Arvey jumped a super round of showjumping and just dragged out the top block of a skinny gate to add 4 faults to his score.  Overall Arvey finished in 4th place.

Clarke Johnstone was the deserving winner on the lovely Orient Express, Chris Burton was 2nd and Clarke 3rd on his second ride.

Thanks to Jenna and Peter Mahoney who allowed Arvey and Niki to stay at their property in the few day before the event and also for helping with Arvey's travel to and from the event and airport.

Arvey will arrive back at Bimbadeen Park on Tuesday night.

Here are the links to Arvey's Dressage and jumping rounds

Illawarra Dressage (3 April)

As a final preparation for Taurus' trip to New Zealand Shane and Arvey competed at the Illawarra Dressage competition at SIEC.  APH Moritz also took part in the competition.  They both competed in the two Medium classes.  Both horses put together very good tests.  In the 4A APH Moritz was the winner with Taurus in 2nd place in the 4B they swapped and Taurus had a win and Moritz was second.  A very pleasing result considering there where some very accomplished straight dressage horses in the competition.

Niki took Alex to his first dressage day and he placed 2nd in the 2A and 7th in the 1A.  Contador also came along for the experience and they placed 1st in the 1A and 6th in the 2A.

Albury CIC (26-27 March 2011)

A busy and successful weekend for the Bimbadeen Team.  We took a total of 11 horses to Albury.  Shane had six horses, he had a win in the CIC1* with the lovely Il ViciVirgil was having his first one star start and went well to finished 9th in the class of over 40 starters.  In the Pre Novice Shane's two young horses WP Sister Act and Shanghai Joe placed 2nd and 3rd.  In the CIC3* Taurus went well to finish 4th, he will now head to New Zealand for the World Cup qualifier on 8-10 April.  APH Moritz was also in the CIC3* and did a lovely test to be in 3rd place, cross country Shane reported that he was travelling well and jumping great however as Moritz jumped over the Irish bank he lost his back feet and landed awkwardly and Shane landed on his feet standing next to Moritz resulting in elimination.  Shane was very annoyed at himself as he thought he really should not have fallen off.  Moritz did take part in the showjumping and jumped a great clear round.

Niki rode Lee Hokianga's Umunga in the Pre Novice and he went very well to score 73% in the dressage and jumped great to finish on his dressage score and win the class.  Contador was having his first Prelim start he went well with a few little green moment and placed 4th in the class.

Soigne Jackson and Gold took part in their first CIC3* they had a couple of stops cross country but completed the competition which was a great effort.  Her young horse Collateral Damage moved up to Prelim level and showed lots of potential and won the class.

Danielle Podlewski rode the lovely Woodmount Carrick in the Pre Novice they had a good weekend but finished outside the placing's.

Scone CNC (12-13 March 2011)

We headed to Scone with a big team of horses.  Shane again rode six horses with APH Moritz and Taurus (Arvey) having their first start for 2011.  Both horse put in reasonable test with a few area's that need improvement.  They jumped well cross country and showjumping.  Shane did not push them cross country as they are not yet fully fit so they picked up a few time penalties.  Arvey placed 3rd and Moritz was 11th.  In the CNC2* Statford Neo had an unfortunate stop at the arrowhead coming out of the water to drop out of the placing's.

Shane placed 7th in the CNC1* with Vivanthorpe and 10th with Il Vici.  In the Pre Novice Virgil was leading however a few time penalties cross country dropped him to 2nd.

Niki rode Smokey who is now called 'Contador' in the Introductory, he was a little bit excited in his dressage warm up but did a reasonable test and jumped well to place 9th.

Soigne Jackson who is a new employee at Bimbadeen rode her two horse.  Gold and Soigne were having there first 3* start and did a great job with just one frustrating refusal cross country.  Soigne rode her young horse Collateral Damage in the Introductory and scored an impressive 81.2% in the dressage, which allowed them to have a rail and a few time penalities but still win the class.

Danielle Podlewski had a frustrating end to 2010 with an injury that kept her out of the saddle for a few months.  Danielle rode Woodmount Carrick in the Pre Novice sadly they had a communication error that resulted in Danielle dismounting and having to walk home from the cross country course.  They will no doubt get the problem sorted before there next start.

Sydney CNC (26-27 February 2011)

Sydney was our first event for the season.  Shane had a team of six horses and had a successful weekend to come home with five ribbons.  In the CNC1* Il Vici and Vivanthorpe performed well to place 2nd and 4th respectively.  In the Pre Novice Shane's young horses all went well with WP Sister Act placing 4th, Shanghai Joe 6th and Virgil 7th.  Statford Neo was in the CNC2* however he did not understand one of the arrowhead questions on course so sadly was eliminated.

Niki had a mixed competition, during the week in the lead up Kirra showed some lameness so it was decided to give her a few weeks off to recover.  We think she must have slipped whilst hooning around the paddock........silly girl.  She should be back in work shortly and start her year a little later than the others.  Archie performed a solid test although did not score well he jumped super cross country however was quiet lame warming up for the showjumping so he was withdrawn.  On the Monday following the competition taken to Agnes banks Equine Clinic where it was discovered that Archie has a fractured split bone, amazingly the fracture is thought to have occurred in January however as Archie is so tough be went on with lameness.  It was just the cross country run that jarred the fracture which Archie found painful.  Archie will now join Kirra on holidays for a month or two.

On a brighter note for Niki, Smokey had his first competition.  He competed in the Introductory, he has made a promising transition from racehorse to eventer and came home the proud owner of a new woollen rug and a shinny blue ribbon for winning the class.  What a start to his career!

Lucinda Green Clinic (13-14 February 2011)

Niki took Kirra to the clinic with Lucinda. It was a great clinic, there was lots of positive feedback from riders and spectators.  Kirra performed well throughout the clinic and really started to focus on and work out the tough skinny lines that Lucinda set up.  Michelle Hasibar also took part in the clinic with on of our Another Warrior babies 'Biscuit'.  Lucinda loved Biscuit and insisted on getting up very early on Tuesday morning so she could have a ride on him before we took her to the airport.  She was really impressed with him and like the look of his dad 'Another Warrior'.

Camden Hunter Trials (6 February 2011)

A great way to start the year, we took the team out to the training day.  They all took part in cross country and showjumping rounds in a very relaxed atmosphere.  All the horse went well and everyone is looking forward to a busy year.

Berrima CNC (27-28 November)

Berrima was the last competition for the year for the Bimbadeen team.  Niki rode the lovely young WP Midnight Oil who went very well to place 2nd in the Prelim, he is now ready to move up to Pre Novice level.  Niki also rode Alex who went well but finished outside the placing's thanks to a steady cross country round in the pouring rain which incurred several time penalties.  Shane had a good weekend to place 3rd with Il Vici in the CNC1* he also finished 11th and 12th with Vivanthorpe and Ally Allure.  Shane placed 4th on Jilly who is getting better and better with each outing.

Rachel rode here own horse Doogie who went well but finished out of the placing's.

Australian International Three Day Event - Adelaide (12-14 November)

A relatively relaxing weekend for Niki and Shane with just one horse each at the Adelaide Three Day Event.  Shane was thrilled with Statford Neo who really stepped up to the challenge and won the CIC2*, they lead the dressage, jumped clear cross country and finishing the competition with a clear showjumping round to win in fantastic style.  Neo is following in his fathers footsteps as Statford Novalis won this class in 2008.  It was great that Neo's owners David and Sandra Burton were in Adelaide to enjoy the win.

Niki's weekend was not as successful as Shane's although Archie jumped extremely well his dressage test left him at the close to the bottom of the score board so they played catch up in the jumping phases.  They did manage to move up 16 places but that only left them in 20th position.  It was disappointing for Niki as Archie's dressage has been on the improve over the past few months.

Australian Showjumping Championships - Canberra (4-7 November)

Shane had a busy time as he was driving back and forward from Canberra so he could jump his horses but also ride the horses at home.  His results made the driving worthwhile, the classes at this show are huge, with more than 120 in some classes, so winning a ribbon is a huge achievement.  Shane did better than that, he won two classes.  In the D grade he was victorious on the classy Il Vici who has really developed in to a future international star, Shane was also 2nd in this class on the jumping machine Virgil.  In the D and C Grade Shane was the winner on Taurus who jumped super.  Shane was pleased with his other horses including Vivanthorpe who jumped clear around the D grade Championship class but had a rail in the jump off while Shane was trying to break the land speed record! Statford Neo jumped well but was not fast enough to win a ribbon this time.  Jilly and Shanghai Joe both jumped well throughout the show.

Niki rode Milford Monarch who jumped super but as Niki is preparing Archie for Adelaide she did not go fast in the jump offs so did not finish in the placing's. Wisteria Lane is proving to be a real ribbon winner, Niki entered her more for the experience than trying to win.  However Kirra jumped a lovely round in the 1.05m and placed 5th.  Niki was thrilled when Kirra jumped around the D grade Championship class with just one down, the class was 1.2m+, bigger then Kirra has even schooled at home.  Kirra also caught the judges eye in the Oaks Sporthorses Young Horse class which is judged on style, Niki and Kirra places 3rd and are qualified for the Young Horse Final.

Eventing Equestriad CNC (30-31 October)

A busy weekend for Shane and Niki who where event organisers and riders for the weekend, luckily there a fantastic Equestriad committee who worked well together to run this event which allowed Shane and Niki the opportunity to assist and also ride.  Shane had a successful weekend and managed to fine all the cross country jumps (unlike our May event where he Eliminated Novalis for missing the loop through the main arena!).  In the CNC3* Shane rode Taurus who is really maturing an unluckly rail cost them the win but Shane was pleased with his performance which placed them 2nd.  Statford Neo finished in 6th palce in the CNC2* and will now head to Adelaide for the CIC2*.

The very exciting Il Vici went extremely well to win the CNC1* class, Shane absolutely loves this horse and is looking forward to moving up the grades with him.  Another promising young horse is Kerry French's Ally Allure who was having her first 1* start they looked set to finish in the money thanks to a good dressage and showjumping performance however a frustrating step back at the drop fence at the second last meant they finished out of the placing's.  Shane was very annoyed as she had jumped super and he just expected her to drop down with out problem, he now wishes he gave her a little kick to make it happen.   Michelle Hasibar and Brett Jones' lovely young Vivant gelding Virgil had a great weekend and added nothing to his winning dressage score to win the Pre Novice class.

Niki was not happy with Shane's winning performance in the Pre Novice as it relegated her and Wisteria Lane to 2nd place and ended their winning streak.  Although perhaps without two errors of course in the dressage the placing's may have been reversed.  Niki also rose WP Midnight Oil who did a super test to score 78.6% and lead the class , they jumped clear cross country but a few rails in the showjumping dropped them to 3rd place.

Michelle rode Jilly in the Prelim and they had a good weekend to finish in 6th place.

______________________________________________________________________________________

Goulburn CIC (15-17 October) NSW State Championships

Well what a weekend!     Goulburn is a favourite with the Bimbadeen team however this year produced some amazing weather.  It snowed!!!  Niki and Wisteria Lane (Kirra) put together a great test but found themselves covered in snow at the completion of their test.  Making it all worthwhile Kirra stayed in the lead and won the Pre Novice making that her third win in a row.  She is still however quiet spooky cross country so is not yet ready to move up the grades.  Milford Monarch also went well in the CIC2* but did not place in the tough class.

Shane was pleased with team of horses Taurus placed 6th in the CIC3*, the lovely Il Vici placed 6th in the CIC1*.  In the Pre Novice Kerry French's Ally Allure was 5th and Purbeck Finale 9th.  Unfortunately Virgil bit his tongue in the dressage and was therefore eliminated, he was able to complete the competition and jumped well. Statford Neo was going well cross country however he miss read a fence at the end of the course which resulted in a fall and automatic elimination.

Mirrabooka CNC (2-3 October)

Niki decided to head over the the World Equestrian Games in America to support the Australian riders.  While she was away Shane and Michelle headed to Mirrabooka for their CNC competition.  Michelle and WP Flawless put together a great performance to win the CNC2*.

Shane was kept very busy with 7 horses competing, he had showing in the Pre Novice with Virgil winning, Kerry French's Ally Allure 3rd and Purbeck Finale 7th.  Shanghai Joe was 2nd in the Prelim with Jilly 10th in the same class.

Scone CNC (25-26 September)

Thanks to a busy calendar Shane decided to stay home, so Niki, Michelle and Rachel headed off for a girls only weekend.

Niki took just two horses her home bred Jaybee Alabaster gelding Alex, this was Alex's first outing and he behaved beautifully and put together a lovely dressage test to score 67%.  Alex wanted to have a second look at the water and another fence which dropped him out of the placing's.  He really impressed Niki and she feels he has a huge future.  Niki's other ride was another home bred horse WP Midnight Oil (Baz).  Baz preformed beautifully and placed 3rd in the intro class.  Both these horses are offered for sale for more information see for sale page.

Rachel and Michelle had any enjoyable weekend with mixed results.

______________________________________________________________________________________

Canberra CIC (18-19 September)

The venue at Canberra continues to impress, the facilities have improved each time we visit.  Shane had a busy weekend with six rides all of which came home with a ribbon.  Sir Dex went very well to place 2nd in the CIC2*, Virgil was 3rd in the Pre Novice, Vivanthorpe was 7th in the CIC1*, Purbeck Finale was 2nd in the Pre Novice, Shanghai Joe placed 2nd in the Prelim and Jilly 6th in the Prelim. So overall a great weekend for Shane's team.

Niki also had a good weekend with Wisteria Lane winning the Pre Novice, scoring an amazing 86.3% in the dressage.  Milford Monarch also went well and put together won of his best dressage tests and jumped super to place 3rd just behind Shane and Dex.  Ladybrook Remington also attended however Niki decided not to go cross country with him.

Sydney International Three Day Event (26-29 August)

Sydney International Three Day Event was the final selection event for the World Equestrian Games in the US.  Due to unfortunate injuries to some of the horses in contention the team has basically selected itself with the competition at SIEC acting as a final assessment of fitness and form.  We wish all the riders the best of luck for the World Championships.

Shane was invited to competition in the WEG selection class with Taurus (Arvey) even though we understood that Arvey was very green at this level and not really ready to go to a Championship event, it was however a great opportunity for Arvey to experience that type of atmosphere and put him in the eye's of the National selectors.  Arvey also took part in the CCI3* class.  He put together two good test with a few baby mistakes, he certainly shows huge promise for the future.  Unfortunately a green mistake in at the tough water fence resulted in 20 penalties which dropped them out of the placing's.  This fence proved difficult for many including a couple of our WEG horses.

Shane also rode Statford Neo in the CCI1*, Neo performed very well though out the competition and produced one of the few clear showjumping rounds to finish the competition in 2nd place.  A great result for Neo and his owners David and Sandra Burton.

Niki rode Wisteria Lane and together they lead the Pre Novice class from start to finish.  They finished on their impressive dressage score to win the class.  Michelle rode the lovely Il Vici into 7th place in the Pre Novice class.

______________________________________________________________________________________

Silver Hills (14-15 August)

Silver Hills is our closest event and a great place to take out our younger team.  Niki rode Susie Kearnes lovely Comet Moonwinds and together they won the Prelim class. Niki also rode Biscuit in the Intro he went well but did have a stop at the water while he decided if he wanted to get his feet wet.  Ladybrook Remington was having his first start in some time and went well in the CNC1* but was penalised with a 21 penality for competing in a lower level than he is qualified.

Shane had a successful weekend, he won the Prelim with Michelle Hasibar's lovely Vivant gelding Virgil and placed 2nd in the same class with Angela Shacklady's classy mare Purbeck Finale.  Shane was also 6th in the Prelim with the very flash Shanghai Joe who is by our thoroughbred stallion Another Warrior.  We are thrilled with the progeny of this stallion.

Shane also rode Charlotte Mavris' mare Kinnordy Giselle, they unfortunately slipped over on the flat cross country so they were unable to continue.  Statford Neo was leading the CNC1* but a stop at the water moved them out of the placing's.

Kooralbyn CNC (7-8 August)
