Update on Shane 23/3/05
SHANE IS HOME..... After nearly three weeks
in hospital Shane has finally been allowed to come home. He still has
metal braces in this mouth to stabilise his jaw. Shane is able to eat
soft food, so hopefully he will regain the 9kg he has lost. His face is
looking much better, he has had a number of plates and pins inserted to
hold the bones in place. The swelling is rapidly disappearing and the
surgical wounds are already starting to heal. Shane will be resting (if
we can get him to sit still) at home for the next few week.
Thank you to everyone for your support and kindness over the past few
weeks.

Update on Shane's accident 17/3/05
The Team are pleased to report that Shane
is on the mend and has moved from Intensive Care into a ward at
Liverpool Hospital, The swelling is rapidly disappearing and he is
starting to look like the old Shane again. His jaw is still wired shut,
but he is able to speak. Early next week the wire will be replaced with
elastic bands that will allow him to start using the jaw.
Shane has started Physiotherapy including short walks around the ward.
We are looking forward to Shane's return home in the next week or two.
Experience Breaker and Pre Trainer, Scott Carey has settled in at
Bimbadeen Park and we are thrilled with the way he is working with the
horses. Scott and the staff at Bimbadeen Park are doing a fantastic job.
On behalf of the whole team at Bimbadeen Park I would like to thank
everyone for there support.

Update on Shane's accident 12/3/05
On Friday, 4 March Shane was kicked in the face by a horse whilst he was long reining it through the barriers. He has sustained multiple facial fractures. The accident was witnessed by a friend, Shane was unconscious for about 10 seconds and was immediately rushed to hospital.
Shane was put in a medically induced coma to regulate his breathing and manage the pain, he has now had a number of operations including a tracheotomy and some facial reconstruction and is well and truly on the road to recovery.
He woke for the first time on Friday, 11 March he is unable to speak (due to the tracheotomy) and has difficulties opening his eyes due to the swelling. He is very alert and responsive and answers questions with a nod or shake of the head. He has also be writing notes to communicate. He is understandably frustrated at the situation.
He is still in the Intensive Care Unit at Liverpool hospital, we hope that he will move to a ward early next week.
It will be a long road to complete recovery, but no doubt Shane's fighting spirit will ensure he is back riding very soon.
Thank you to everyone that has offered support and assistance, you have all been so kind.
